Obituary for George Guyton
George Guyton, 88, died January 11, 2019.

George Winston Guyton, Sr. was a loving and family oriented servant of God, born November 27, 1930 in Lewisburg, MS to the late Fannie B Collins Johnson Guyton and Andrew Johnson Guyton. Because of his amazing sense of responsibility, reliability and dependability he took a leading role in the family. He was affectionately called “Big Win”. George accepted Christ at an early age. Upon moving to Memphis he became a member of Midtown Church of Christ. Later in life George formed an even closer bond with God at SouthEastSide Church of Christ on Riverdale Road.

He was a proud graduate of Booker T Washington High School in Memphis, TN. He was drafted to the United States Army, where he was later transferred to the United States’ Army Reserve to complete 8 years of service. Shortly after an honorable discharge from the United States Army Reserve, he attended Henderson Business College.

George married Gwendolyn Marie Ingram and to this union two children were born George Winston Guyton, Jr “Lil Win” and Charlotte Ann Guyton. Their special bond was built on mutual respect and admiration. The pair remained happily united in matrimony until her death January 19, 2006.

George was an employee of Nat Buring Packing Company and a Union Representative and Secretary for AFL-CIO Meat Cutters and Butchers of North America for over forty years. He entered into retirement life in May 1995.

In 2007, as fate would have it George found Pauline. Four years later, this courtship blossomed into a loving and affectionate marriage.

On January 11, 2019, George Winston Guyton was called from his labor to his reward. He was preceded in death by his first wife Gwendolyn and an older brother Charles Sidney Guyton.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Pauline Guyton, one son George Winston Guyton, Jr. (Betty), two daughters, Charlotte Jackson (Kevin) and Brandi M. Love, five grand children, Kiersten Alicia Hawes, Kasmine Regina Jackson, Myles Christian Guyton, Cameron Miland Jackson, and Cortlin Dallas Jackson, a God-son Richard Jones, Sr. (Betty), one niece Michele D. Ingram, one nephew Michael D. Ingram, his mother-in-law Bertha Mae Hodge, three brother-in-laws, Larry Hodge, Reuben Hodge (Evelyn), and Richard Hodge (Juana), a special God-brother Malcom Hawes (Hazel), three God-grandchildren Tamara Jones, Richard Jones, Jr., Miesha Jones and a host of cousins and friends.
